I Timothy 5-6

“Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment, for we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world” (6:6-7). Paul wanted believers to live faithful, productive, contented lives, warning against “senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction” (6:9). He urged young widows to remarry (like “getting a job” in that culture, ch 5), and while he encouraged everyone to work hard, he also taught that loving money was a root of evil (6:10). “Those who desire to be rich fall into temptation” (6:19).

“Take hold of that which is truly life” (6:19). Rather than the false promises of the world, Jesus offers us life that satisfies our souls.
