Ezekiel 44-48
/"This shall be their inheritance: I am their inheritance” (44:28). Israel and Judah had failed to live up to God’s standard for holy, abundant living. But in a vision, God showed Ezekiel a new Temple and called Israel to re-dedicate themselves to righteousness. Rather than profiting from their roles, the priests were to depend on the Lord as their inheritance. Rather than oppression, Israel’s leaders were to govern justly. “Put away violence and oppression and execute justice and righteousness” (45:9).
Ultimately, Ezekiel’s vision pointed beyond our imperfect and sinful world to full redemption and restoration. We look forward to our home in the New Jerusalem, bursting with life, watered by God’s Spirit. “Everything will live where the river goes” (47:9).
