Psalm 116

“I love the LORD, for he heard my voice; he heard my cry for mercy” (v1). The psalmist knew what God was like because he had years of experience with the Lord. His faith was based on God’s proven compassion: “When I was brought low, He saved me” (v6). The psalmist remembered being “overcome by distress and sorrow” (v3); then, the Lord rescued him and returned him to “the land of the living” (v9). The psalmist knew the Lord would continue to deliver him.

“Return to your rest, my soul, for the LORD has been good to you” (v7). In times of unrest, we remember what God has done for us. His mercy doesn’t run out.
