I Samuel 29-31
/“But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God” (30:6). Pursued by King Saul and rejected by his temporary allies the Philistines, David had returned home to Ziklag to find the city destroyed by the Amalekites and his own wives and children kidnapped. It was one of the lowest personal points of his life, as he was without nation or family, and his followers wanted to stone him. But David consulted the Lord (v8), pursued the Amalekites, and recovered all the captives.
David knew that he wasn’t the hero; it was God who fought for and rescued Israel (v23). Our strength comes from knowing where to go for wisdom, protection, and help in the battle.
