Psalm 74
/“Direct your steps to the perpetual ruins; the enemy has destroyed everything in the sanctuary!” (v3). The psalmist described the tragic destruction of Jerusalem’s Temple by the invading Babylonians, who “have roared in the midst of your meeting place …and all its carved wood they broke down with hatchets and hammers” (v6). Even though Israel’s own spiritual rebellion led to the Babylonian attack, the psalmist begged the Lord, “have regard for the covenant … defend Your cause” (v20-22).
“Yet God my King is from of old, working salvation in the midst of the earth” (v12). Even when we have caused our own problems, God is our Savior. He redeems what is lost and restores the ruins.
