Romans 6
/“We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that … we too might walk in newness of life” (v4). The goal of Christ’s death, Paul wrote, was that we might “walk in newness of life.” Salvation doesn’t just change our status; we also have power to change attitudes and behavior. “We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing” (v6). Our hearts have been set free from sin’s authority so we can learn a new way of life.
Having been forgiven and given a secure place in God’s kingdom, we can now “become obedient from the heart” to the ways of Jesus (v17).
