Exodus 27-28

“Then bring near to you Aaron your brother, and his sons with him, from among the people of Israel, to serve me as priests” (28:1).  While all Israel was called to be a “kingdom of priests,” God chose the tribe of Levi and the line of Aaron to function as the priests who would lead the people in offerings and sacrifices.  They were sinful humans like everyone else; their beautiful garments and special anointing were because of God’s holiness, not their own.

“And Aaron shall bear their names before the Lord …” (v12). Just as the priests took the names of Israel’s tribes into the holy place, Jesus our High Priest carries us into God’s presence.
