Psalm 23

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” (v1).  The psalmist’s perspective on life came from his firm belief in God as the good Shepherd.  He believed that God’s desire is to give us good things, to lead us through green pastures, and let us rest beside still waters.  This same Shepherd walks with us in the valley of the shadow of death and spreads out a banquet in the midst of enemies.  Whether the circumstances look bountiful or grim, the Shepherd’s loving care does not change.

“I will fear no evil, for you are with me” (v4).  When we know the good Shepherd, we don’t live in fear; we trust that He will ultimately be good to us.
