Psalm 42

“My soul thirsts for God, the living God” (v2). In a time when the psalmist felt far from the Lord, his heart waited for restored fellowship.  He was reminded of what it was like to walk in harmony with the Lord: “I remember you from the land of Jordan … deep calls to deep at the roar of your waterfalls” (v7).  His soul was “cast down,” yet he wasn’t really alone; “at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life” (v8).

“Hope in God; for I shall again praise him” (v11). Circumstances can make us feel cast down, yet God is at work. He will quench our spiritual thirst and raise us up again.
