Psalm 56
/“Be gracious to me, O God, for man tramples on me; all day long an attacker oppresses me” (v1). David’s troubles with the Philistines were real and severe. He admitted his fear and declared at the same time, “I put my trust in You … what can flesh do to me?” (v3-4). David’s trust was based on two certainties: God’s power to deliver us from any evil, even death (v13), and God’s love for us (v9). Our tears are noticed by our Lord (v8), and He is working for our good.
“This I know, that God is for me” (v9). The God of the universe knows our name, and He is faithful to deliver us when we call on Him.
