Psalm 78
/“We will … tell the coming generation the glorious deeds of the LORD” (v4). The psalmist wanted new generations to know about Israel’s history both as encouragement and as a warning (v7-8). God led His people through the desert with a cloud and with fire, and He “split rocks” so they could drink abundant water (v12-16). Yet “they did not believe in God or trust in His saving power” (v22). Their rebellion many to die in the wilderness. Yet God graciously still worked through the tribe of Judah (v68).
“So that they should set their hope on God” (v7). The past teaches us both God’s amazing kindness and the consequences of sin. We have every reason to hope in Him.
