I John 3

“And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us” (v23). The apostle John assured believers that there was no mystery about what God wanted: His command was to trust completely in Jesus and to love others. John urged believers to love “in deed and truth,” not just talk (v18). In fact, no matter what people say, those who make a practice of sinning and do not love others are not God’s children (v9-10).

“By this we know love, that He laid down His life for us” (v16). God in Christ demonstrated real love by setting aside His rights and privileges and dying for us.
