Esther 5-6
/“But when Haman saw Mordecai in the king's gate, that he neither rose nor trembled before him, he was filled with wrath against Mordecai” (5:9). Esther and Mordecai had not planned to “put” Esther in the palace, yet they had acted righteously in the roles they had been given. At great risk, they tried to protect their people. But the reality was that they were vulnerable in the face of Haman’s hatred. Their human power was limited. However, God was at work far beyond their abilities: “On that night the king could not sleep” (6:1).
Mordecai “neither rose nor trembled” before Haman (5:9). Courage to do right comes when we recognize our limitations yet trust wholly in our good and powerful Savior.
