Colossians 2:1-15

“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith” v6-7). The Colossians had been baptized and fully set free by Jesus; His sacrifice completely paid their spiritual debt and broke the power of sin in their lives. Yet, they were being tempted to go back to “philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition” (v8); they were tempted to return to strict cultural rules for their righteousness, rather than Christ.

Rather than outward conformity and prideful self-righteousness, God wants us to be “encouraged, being knit together in love,” so that we fully understand and depend on the grace of Jesus (v2).
