Song of Solomon 1-3

“I will seek him whom my soul loves” (v2). This ancient wedding-poem celebrates the passion of human love, which is just a small glimpse of divine love. The lovers in the poem delight in one another and seek each other out, finding joy in each other’s company and looking for opportunities to be together (“come away”, 2:10). Even more, God calls us to delight in Him, to take comfort in His presence, and to rest secure in His deep and never-ending love for us.

“My beloved is mine, and I am his” (2:16). The best human relationships give us joy, but only God’s love can heal our brokenness and make us whole.
