Jeremiah 36-37
/“As Jehudi read three or four columns, the king would cut them off with a knife and throw them into the fire in the fire pot, until the entire scroll was consumed in the fire” (36:23). Jeremiah prophesied that God was about to punish Judah for their sins, and King Jehoiakim’s response was to burn the scroll. Rather than repent or warn his people, the king threatened Jeremiah’s life and tried to obliterate the evidence of God’s word. The king and his leaders weren’t afraid and did not “tear their garments” (36:24).
God warns us “so that every one may turn from his evil way, and that I may forgive their iniquity” (36:3), yet the choice to respond is ours.
