Proverbs 25
/“A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls” (v28). The proverbs give us a picture of a wise, godly life, and that includes learning to master our desires, emotions, and words (v9,11,24). Learning to control our desires gives us the power to enjoy the good things of life, which are blessings from God, while not being controlled by them. “If you have found honey, eat only enough for you, lest you have your fill of it and vomit it” (v16). In other words, uncontrolled appetites eventually cause harm rather than satisfaction.
God’s Word to us, like “apples of gold in a setting of silver” (v11), directs us toward the path of peace and contentment.
