James 2
/“So speak and so act as those who are to be judged under the law of liberty” (v12). James was concerned, pastorally, about people who supposedly “believed” the right things but did not live out their faith (v14). James saw that those who had been truly gripped by Jesus’ grace treated others differently, showing mercy to each other and honoring and welcoming the poor (v9-13). He used Abraham and Rahab as examples of people who put their confidence in God, leading to acts of radical faith (v21-25).
“For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead (v26). Our words and actions reveal the love of Christ at work in our hearts.
