James 5
/“Be patient, therefore, brothers, until the coming of the Lord” (v7). James wrote to encourage the hearts of believers who were struggling with all kinds of suffering, temptations, persecutions, and problems as they waited for Jesus to return. He reminded them that they were the “firstfruits” (1:18) of the Lord’s harvest, and there was certainly more “precious fruit” (5:7) to come. But meanwhile they were to live as God’s beloved children, not competing with one another and laying up earthly treasures, like the unrepentant rich (v1-6).
“You also, be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord is at hand” (v8). God wants to fill us with peace and contentment as we wait for His return.
