Mark 10
/“How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!” (23). The disciples were “amazed” (24) at Jesus’ words, because most people thought riches were a sign of God’s blessing. But Jesus saw that wealth caused people to think they were in control of their lives and therefore made it difficult for them to surrender and trust in the Lord, as the pious rich man demonstrated (17). Their treasures on earth filled their hearts more than treasure in heaven (21).
“We have left everything to follow you!” (28). Jesus promised that when we put everything in his hands – our poverty or our riches – he will not disappoint us. Life with him satisfies “a hundred times as much” (30).
