Psalm 52-53

“Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion!” (53:6). The psalmist longed for salvation to come to Israel, in the form of freedom from oppression, war, and poverty. He also acknowledged that Israel needed saving from itself: ”There is none who does good, no, not even one” (v5). The wickedness that causes global human suffering is the same thing that causes us to neglect our neighbors and favor our own comfort over someone else’s.

The good news is that salvation did come from Zion, and not only for Israel. Jesus came to save us from our greatest enemy – the sin that brings separation and pain – and to give us life.
