Ephesians 1
/“I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ ... may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better” (17). The Ephesians had come to know Christ in a dramatic way (Acts 19), and Paul told them that “the riches of God’s grace” in their lives had just begun. When they believed in Christ, they were given the “deposit” of the Spirit, the guarantee of redemption (13-14), and this same Spirit was active, helping them know Christ better.
“I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened” (18). We need the Spirit’s help to grasp the riches of our inheritance – the hope, joy, and power of belonging to Christ.
