Hebrews 7

“Such a high priest truly meets our need—one who is holy, blameless, pure, set apart from sinners, exalted above the heavens” (26). The Jewish-Christian readers of Hebrews worried that Jesus, being from Judah instead of the priestly Levite tribe, could not be their high priest (11-16). But Psalm 110 prophesied that the Messiah would be a priest like the mysterious, nation-less, “without genealogy” Melchizedek, who blessed Abraham (1-10). Jesus is not High Priest and Savior because of right “ancestry” but because of His holy, indestructible life (16).

Jesus, born in Bethlehem, serves as High Priest for everyone in every generation who calls on Him. “Because Jesus lives forever”, He intercedes for us always, and our salvation is secure forever (24).
