Psalm 48

“Beautiful in its loftiness, the joy of the whole earth ... the city of the Great King” (2). Mount Zion (Jerusalem), where God’s people came together for worship, symbolized God’s desire to dwell among His redeemed, holy people. Even if physical Jerusalem is in ruins, the city of God is “secure forever” (8), because of God’s power and enduring love for His people. Through the Messiah, people from “the whole earth” gather to joyfully worship the Great King and recount His saving power to the next generation (13).

“Within your temple, we meditate on your unfailing love” (9). Gathered to worship the Great King, made holy in Christ, we are God’s dwelling place (Ephesians 2:22).
