Genesis 38-40
/“How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?” (39:9). Within the big story of God’s covenant with Abraham, Judah’s and Joseph’s stories show the choices of individuals in relation to God’s ways. Judah’s sons were evil and rebellious, and Judah was more concerned about his own desires than his responsibility toward his daughter-in-law (ch 38). But Joseph, thrown into danger and temptation, decided that faithfulness to the Lord mattered more than anything.
“But while Joseph was in prison, the Lord was with him” (39:20-21). In prison, or in hardship, facing trouble or temptation, we have a choice. Like Joseph, we can choose to walk with the Lord and remain faithful to him.
