Leviticus 14-15

“He is to slaughter the lamb in the sanctuary area where the sin offering and the burnt offering are slaughtered. Like the sin offering, the guilt offering belongs to the priest; it is most holy” (14:13). Although skin diseases and other impurity issues were not the same as willful sinfulness (such as adultery or theft), for Israelites, these things still polluted the person and the community. Anything involving blood or illness was related to death, and death was not God’s design. Therefore, even “natural” events like sickness and childbirth were cleansed by sacrifices.

Hebrews says that the old sacrifices made the Israelites “outwardly clean,” but the blood of Jesus makes us completely clean, body and soul, so that we can serve God (Hebrews 9:14).
