Psalm 63

“You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you; I thirst for you” (1). David the psalmist had glimpsed the joy of fellowship with God (2), and he realized that nothing – not the favor of others, not family or personal achievements – could compare with knowing him. Apart from the Lord, we end up desperately thirsty in a “parched land”. But God’s love is “better than life” (3), and his presence is more satisfying than “the richest of foods” (5).

“I sing in the shadow of your wings; I cling to you” (7-8). Chasing the world’s satisfactions leaves our souls parched and dry, but close fellowship with the Lord brings real joy.
