Isaiah 5-7
/“My loved one had a vineyard ... but it yielded only bad fruit” (5:2). God had rescued the Israelites so that they would serve Him and be a light to the nations; they were His vineyard, His people. However, Isaiah the prophet said: God “looked for justice, but saw bloodshed; for righteousness, but heard cries of distress” (5:7). Rampant greed and self-indulgence ruined the land (5:8,11), and so the holy Creator sent Isaiah to warn of coming judgment (6:3).
“Holy, holy holy ... the whole earth is full of His glory” (6:3). Like Israel, we have been rescued from sin’s slavery for a purpose: not to serve ourselves, but to be people who bear good fruit for God’s glory.
