Leviticus 18-20

“Consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am the Lord your God. Keep my decrees and follow them” (20:7). God’s commands to the Israelites about how to live were based on his own divine character: “I am the Lord.” As his holy people, made in his image, they were not to follow “the customs of the nations” (20:23) – otherwise they too would forfeit the land and blessing. In sexuality (ch 18), in family life, in their neighborhoods, in business, and in worship, they were to reflect God.

“I am the Lord, who makes you holy” (20:7). As he did with the Israelites, God saves us for a purpose: so that we live as his redeemed, holy people.
