Galatians 1

“I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting the one who called you to live in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel” (6-7). Paul knew the real ‘gospel’ was that the Son of God “gave himself for our sins to rescue us” (3). Jesus is the good news – the fulfillment of Israel’s story, the full expression of God’s love, the divine Son who became human and died for us. Any “gospel” that deviates from Jesus, even “the tradition of the fathers” (14), is a perversion (6).

“Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ” (3). The grace and peace we desperately need come to us from the Father through Jesus.
