Hebrews 13

“Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise— the fruit of lips that openly profess his name” (13). Jewish believers were facing pressure to return to Temple rituals and sacrifices. The author reminded them that Jesus was rejected by religious authorities; He suffered “outside the city gate”, where sacrificial animals were burned (11-12). To those being tempted to return to tradition, Hebrews says that the grace of Jesus is all they need (9).

“Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore” (13). Jesus bore ‘disgrace’ because He was pleasing the Father, not the world. Uniting ourselves with Him, our great Shepherd and Lord (20), is worth every cost.
