II Thessalonians 2

“So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachings we passed on to you ... (15). Paul urged the Thessalonians not to become “unsettled” or “alarmed” by false teachings about Jesus’ return (2). Their firm foundation was the truth that they were “loved by the Lord” (13); by faith and the Spirit’s work, their salvation was secure (13). They did not need to worry about or fear the future. The “splendor” of Jesus’ coming would destroy the works of evil (8).

In the middle of a tumultuous, anxiety-stricken world, God wants to give us “eternal encouragement and good hope” (16). Secure in Him, we have courage for “every good deed and word” (17).
