Numbers 18-19

“You will have no inheritance in their land, nor will you have any share among them; I am your share and your inheritance among the Israelites” (18:20). God gave every Israelite tribe a particular gift of land in Canaan, except for the tribe of Levi. The Levites served at the tabernacle and were supported by tithes, and the priests (Aaron’s descendants) shared the food brought to the altar. They owned nothing, yet – dependent on the Lord – they enjoyed “the finest olive oil”, wine and grain (18:12-13).

“I am your share and your inheritance” (18:20). As a “kingdom of priests”, we recognize that everything we have comes from God and is dedicated to his purposes. Even more, he himself is our reward.
