Leviticus 8-10

“The glory of the Lord appeared to all the people. Fire came out from the presence of the Lord ...” (9:22). Aaron and his sons were ordinary humans chosen and anointed to be priests. They offered sacrifices for their own sins as well as Israel’s, and they helped people approach God’s awesome holiness. “And when all the people saw it, they shouted for joy and fell facedown” (9:23-24). But when Aaron’s sons carelessly offered “strange fire” on the altar, God’s fire fell in judgment rather than glory (10:1-2).

“So that the glory of the Lord may appear to you” (9:6). Our high priest Jesus makes us holy, and “his light shines in our hearts” so God’s glory can be seen (II Cor 4:6).
