Matthew 8

“He replied, “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm” (25). Jesus came into the world to free us fear, as the Bible tells us repeatedly (I John 4:18). He healed people of painful diseases that isolated them (2), he calmed dangerous wind and waves, and he confronted the darkness that kept people trapped and terrified, including demon-possession (16). He freed people so that they would be able to follow him anywhere (18-22).

“Just say the word” (8:8). Faith in Jesus’ infinite love and power gives us courage to live radically for him. He is greater than all the things that cause us fear.
