Isaiah 18-19
/“In that day there will be an altar to the Lord in the heart of Egypt ...” (19:19). Prophetically, Isaiah declared that God’s ultimate desire for Egyptians was that they would know Him. As a nation they faced judgment for their pride and violence (like Cush, ch 18, and Israel, ch 17), yet God promised to send them “a savior and a defender” (19:20). He promised to rescue them and make Himself known to them (19:21). One day, sworn enemies – Egypt, Assyria, and Israel – would worship the Lord together (19:23-25).
God’s mercy through Christ conquers human sin and human divisions, creating one family. “Blessed be Egypt my people, Assyria my handiwork, and Israel my inheritance” (19:25).
