Psalm 116

“For you, Lord, have delivered me from death, my eyes from tears, my feet from stumbling” (8). The psalmist took courage from remembering how God had rescued him from troubles in the past. When he was “overcome by distress and sorrow” and called on God, God answered. When he felt “afflicted” and discouraged by the deception of others (11), God was his refuge. In every crisis, God had been his support. “When I was brought low, He saved me” (6).

“Return to your rest, my soul, for the LORD has been good to you”. The God who helped us in the past has not changed, and He desires to be our refuge and strength today.
