Psalms 102

“For the Lord will rebuild Zion ... He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; he will not despise their plea” (16-17). The psalmist could confidently look forward to the restoration of ‘Zion,” God’s city, because he experienced God’s mercy in his own life. He had felt great distress, lying awake at night (7); he felt that his strength was broken and he was withering away (11, 23). Yet he wanted “future generations” to know that God has compassion on our struggles and answers prayer (18-22).

“You will arise and have compassion on Zion” (13). God has compassion on us when we are worn down by life. Through Christ, he rebuilds and restores what is broken.
