I Samuel 27-30

“When Saul saw the army of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart trembled greatly” (28:5).  At first, King Saul’s fear led him to “inquire of the Lord” (v6), but when he didn’t get the response he wanted, his fear drove him to consult the dead.  Saul’s lack of faith in God and impatience for results had led to trouble before, in the case of offering sacrifices (ch 13), and the pattern resulted in the loss of the throne.

We all struggle with fear, as did the Psalmist-King David.  Rather than allow fear to control us, we can lean on God, our Rock:  “When I am afraid, I put my trust in You” (Ps 56:3).
