Psalm 59

"My God in his steadfast love will meet me; God will let me look in triumph on my enemies” (v10).  The psalmist’s enemies were vicious and persistent, “howling like dogs and prowling about the city” (v6).  Yet the psalmist remained calm, waiting to see how God would save him:  “O my Strength, I will watch for you” (v9).  He saw his enemies’ aggressive actions (v14-15), but he focused on God’s steadfast love.  “I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning” (v16).

The psalms remind us that trouble is part of the human experience, but God’s steadfast love surrounds us “in the presence of our enemies” (Ps 23).
