Acts 2

“Both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians--we hear them telling in our own tongues the mighty works of God” (v11). These “devout men from every nation under heaven” (v5) had gathered for the Feast of Pentecost in Jerusalem, and they heard God’s praises spoken in their own diverse languages.  Peter said that this was a fulfillment of the prophecy that God’s Spirit would be poured on “all flesh”, filling men and women, rich and poor, young and old (v17).

Jesus poured out his Spirit so that his work would continue.  His Spirit-empowered people carry his ministry and message around the world, and “everyone who calls upon the name of the Lord shall be saved” (v22, 39).
