John 2

“This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him” (v11).  Each time Jesus performed a miracle, he met someone’s immediate need and, at the same time, demonstrated something true about himself.  At the wedding in Cana, Jesus rescued the host from being humiliated by running out of supplies, but Jesus never simply covered what was lacking.  He replaced water with the best wine (v10).  He surprised people.  He revealed his power and glory.

Jesus’ miracles were “signs” (v22) pointing to the kingdom he rules and invites us to join.  In his kingdom, sin and death are swallowed up by life.
