1 Samuel 13-14
/“So the Lord saved Israel that day” (14:23). God was the one who saved Israel through causing confusion in the enemy’s camp, through an earthquake, and through the faith of two young men. While most of Israel’s soldiers were hiding in caves, afraid of the well-armed Philistines, Jonathan (King Saul’s son) believed that “nothing can hinder the Lord from saving by many or by few” (13:6). His faith led him to take his armor-bearer and confront the enemy.
Faith is not self-confidence, which is believing in our own strength, skills, and power. Faith is believing in God’s power and goodness and acting on that belief as the Spirit guides us.
