Psalm 55
/“He redeems my soul in safety from the battle that I wage” (v18). The psalmist wanted to borrow “the wings of a dove” and fly away from all his trouble (v6-7), but instead he found himself in a battle. Worse, the battle was not against a far-off enemy, but against “a companion, a familiar friend” (v13). In this tragic situation, the psalmist called on God to save him. “Evening and morning and at noon,” all day, the psalmist poured his heart out to God (v16-19).
“Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you” (v22). Our own resources may be exhausted, but He is our shelter from “the raging wind and tempest” (v8).
