John 11

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life …everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die” (v26).  John explained that because Jesus loved Mary and Martha and Lazarus, he chose them to be part of the display of his power and glory (v4-6,v40).  Jesus’ followers already believed that he was a teacher, a prophet, and miracle-worker – possibly even the Messiah (v21,27).  But Jesus was showing them more: he was not another great prophet or earthly leader, but “the resurrection and the life.”

Jesus’ followers already believed that he had power to heal them.  Yet he is more than our healer or problem-fixer; he is our resurrection, our new life, now and forever.
