John 12

“The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone …” (v23).  Jesus was explaining to his followers that he would be glorified as Messiah and King – but not at all according to their expectations.  His disciples didn’t understand (v16), and Jesus himself struggled with the agony of his approaching death (v27).

“For I did not come to judge the world but to save the world” (v47).  Jesus was willing to “humble himself” (Phil 2:8) and die in order to save us. As his disciples, we follow him in the way of the cross.
