1 Samuel 20-21
/“If I am still alive, show me the steadfast love of the Lord, that I may not die … when the Lord cuts off every one of the enemies of David from the face of the earth” (v14-16). Jonathan was both King Saul’s son and David’s best friend, and he clearly saw the arrow pointing toward David being the next ruler of Israel. Jonathan believed in David and his future kingdom, and so he acted in faith by protecting David.
Jonathan risked everything for the sake of David’s future reign. If we believe in Jesus’ kingdom (now and coming), we will risk everything and give everything in order to be part of it (Matthew 16:25).
