1 Samuel 1-2
/“The bows of the mighty are broken, but the feeble bind on strength” (2:4). Hannah’s song, like Mary’s song centuries later, worships the God who cares for the humble; the book of Samuel begins with Hannah’s story. At God’s altar, Hannah prayed for a child and received her answer. At that same altar, two arrogant priests abused their position by stealing food offerings and committing fornication. God saw Hannah and rewarded her; the “worthless men” (2:12) were condemned.
“There is no rock like our God” (2:2). Hannah had nothing, but she believed that God waspowerful and merciful. God is looking for men and women who will give up their pride and lean on His strength.
