1 Samuel 11-12
/“Do not be afraid; you have done all this evil. Yet do not turn aside from following the LORD, but serve the LORD with all your heart” (12:20). As an old man, Samuel recounted Israel’s history, emphasizing their rebellion and God’s constant mercy. They remained a nation because God forgave them. Even now, with a new king, Israel had the opportunity to move forward with God’s help (v22), as long as they did not “turn aside after empty things that cannot profit” (v21).
“For consider what great things he has done for you.” God’s mercy far outweighs our sins, and each day is a new opportunity to “serve him faithfully with all your heart” (v24).
