1 Samuel 8-10
/“When [Saul] turned his back to leave Samuel, God gave him another heart … and the Spirit of God rushed upon him, and he prophesied among them” (10:9-10). God chose Saul to be Israel’s first anointed king before Saul had done anything spectacular. Tall and handsome, from a wealthy family (attributes that would help people accept him as king), yet untested, Saul simply received God’s Spirit by grace. How he responded to the gift was up to him.
“God is with you” (10:7). Before we have done anything good (and despite our sins), God pours out his grace. How we respond to his salvation, his word, and his gifts is our choice.
